News & Events

Namaste,
It is with great pride and humility that I welcome you to the official website of the Hindi Speaking Union.
Hindi is not just a language—it is a reflection of our identity, our cultural values and the collective memory of our people. It is the emotional and historical bridge that connects us to our roots, to our ancestors and to the wider Indian diaspora. In Mauritius, Hindi has played a powerful role in preserving our heritage, especially through the journey of the Girmitiyas and it continues to serve as a living thread of our rich traditions.
As President of the Hindi Speaking Union, I see it as both an honour and a responsibility to carry forward this legacy. Our mission is to make Hindi accessible, dynamic and relevant—especially for the younger generation. We aim to spark their interest through creative platforms like literature, theatre, digital campaigns, storytelling, competitions, workshops, research, and cultural events that bring language to life. We believe that language is a tool of empowerment. By promoting Hindi, we are not only preserving our past, but also shaping a stronger cultural future—one that embraces innovation while staying rooted in values.
With the support of the Ministry of Arts and Culture, the High Commission of India and cultural partners, the Hindi Speaking Union will continue to advance the use of Hindi in education, communication, and daily life. We will work to ensure that every Hindi-speaking individual feels proud, connected and inspired.
Let us come together to celebrate and strengthen our linguistic identity.
Let us give Hindi the voice it deserves in every home, every school, and every heart.
Warm regards,
Dr Anjalee Chintamunnee
President, Hindi Speaking Union
